What each sale stage means for a buyer

Where each case sits in the court process, and what it signals for anyone buying assets, inventory, or equipment.

Sale motion filed
The debtor or trustee has asked the court to approve selling assets. Bidding procedures or a named buyer usually follow within weeks.
Sale hearing scheduled
Court approval of the sale is imminent; closing usually follows within days to a few weeks. Last window for objections and competing offers.
Sale approved / buyer confirmed
The court has approved the sale or a buyer is confirmed. Closing and post-sale dispositions (excluded assets, rejected leases, leftover inventory and FF&E) are what remain.

How a case gets on the calendar

  • The company is in the Store Closure Watch file with a court-linked record.
  • The docket number and the case name both match the company record.
  • A sale-related entry appeared on the docket within the tracking window.

Cases failing the identity check are never listed. Every record is automatically extracted from court filings, then verified against the docket before delivery.
