Fuzzy's Taco Shop has left Houston
Fuzzy's Taco Shop closed its last three Houston-area restaurants on Sunday, August 30. The restaurants were in Katy, west of Houston; Kingwood, to the northeast; and Sugar Land, to the southwest. All three were operated by the franchisee Nazarian Global Enterprises. Sugar Land opened in June 2025 as the first Houston restaurant under the chain's new "Fuzzy's Tacos & Margs" format. Kingwood opened in November 2025 and Katy in December 2025. The Katy restaurant was open for about eight months. Employees confirmed the closures to local reporters. The franchisee issued no statement.

Fuzzy's opened in Fort Worth in 2001. It had been in the Houston market for more than a decade and had five restaurants there by 2016. Dine Brands, the parent of Applebee's and IHOP, bought the chain in 2022 for $80 million in cash. At that point Fuzzy's had 138 restaurants in 13 states, and 98% of them were franchised.
The count has fallen every year since. It was 128 after what the company called strategic closures in 2024. It was 117 at the end of that year and 106 at the end of 2025. Dine Brands reported 97 restaurants at June 28, 2026. Its 2025 annual report put Fuzzy's same-restaurant sales down 7% for the year. The Houston exit removes a market the chain had re-entered only a year before as the showcase for its new format.
