Lululemon has closed two stores since late August

Lululemon closed its Howell Mill Road store in Atlanta's West Midtown on Friday, August 28. The store had opened in June 2012. By the next afternoon its roughly 3,200 square feet had been cleared out. A sign on the door sends customers to the Ponce City Market store. There was no advance notice and no closing sale. The company said the decision came "after thoughtful consideration." Local reports noted the store had been hit by repeated theft incidents in recent years, with close to $100,000 in merchandise taken.

In the same week a "closed" sign went up on the chain's pop-up in Fairhaven, the historic district of Bellingham, Washington, about 20 miles south of the Canadian border.

The closures come as the company scales back its store plans while sales fall. In January it also laid off about 100 part-time employees at its North American customer service center.
